Behind the Counter is a visually-rich portrait of the passion, grit and originality that define New York City’s small business scene. With beautiful photography and in-depth interviews with 55 store owners from every corner of the city, the book reveals behind-the-scenes stories of iconic and enduring small businesses, as well as the vision of inspiring newcomers. Each 600-word vignette, paired with stunning photography, depicts the day-to-day resilience of these entrepreneurs and the individuality that allows them to thrive in a constantly-evolving retail landscape.
